Placing program shortcuts

 

  1. Place on Start Menu
    1. Click the ‘Start’ button
    2. Click ‘All Programs’
    3. Find the desired program
    4. Right click the program icon
    5. Click ‘Pin to start menu’

 

  1. Place on Desktop
    1. Click the ‘Start’ button
    2. Click ‘All Programs’
    3. Find the desired program (programs can also be found with Windows Explorer or the Search tool in the start menu)
    4. Right click the program icon
    5. Select ‘send to’
    6. Click ‘Desktop (create shortcut)’ (drag and drop NOT recommended)

 

  1. Place on Quick Launch Bar
    1. Show Quick Launch Bar (if not already shown)

                                                               i.      Right click on the Taskbar at the bottom of the Desktop

                                                             ii.      Click ‘Properties’

                                                            iii.      Check ‘Show Quick Launch Bar’

                                                           iv.      Click ‘OK’

    1. Drag and drop the program icon from the Desktop to the Quick Launch Bar (drag and drop from Windows Explorer or My Computer is NOT recommended)

 

  1. Windows automatically creates shortcuts in the Start Menu to the programs used most often.
    1. To adjust the number of shortcuts:

                                                               i.      Right-click the Start button

                                                             ii.      Click ‘Properties’

                                                            iii.      Click the ‘Start menu’ tab

                                                           iv.      Click ‘Customize’ button

                                                             v.      Adjust (with up/down arrows) the number of shortcuts you wish to appear on the Start Menu.
